Jens Quistgaard´s Relief Series and Something About Danish Cornfields

"It´s not about having as many things as possible. It´s about having GOOD things. Nothing fashionable, but something so good that you want to live with it all your life" Jens Quistgaard.

I´ve lived with Quistgaard´s Relief series all my life. My parents received the teapot from the series for their wedding. About 10 months before I arrived. In 1964. - I know, I wrote about it before, but I really love this series........

In my teens, when I developed my own taste, I discovered the teapot as more than just another everyday object. I loved it for it´s form, pattern and functionality. The teapot is so well balanced that it´s easy to pour even though the teapot is rather large.

Most people associate the pattern with leaves and it´s probably the most correct. But to me it´s an image of a Danish cornfield. Made from clay and with a bast handle it´s as close to an image of nature as you might come in a everyday object. I sure can promise I´ll live with this series for the rest of my life.

  1. Nydelig post, Birgitte!
