Ernst is not the potters family name but first name. And he is definitely NOT called Ann Ernst. Where the Ann Ernst comes from is a mystery to me. A misinterpretation of a Danish text? Most likely. Danish has never been a easy language. Ernst Keramik was run by Ernst Nielsen in the small coastal town Faxe situated at the southeastern coast of Zealand, Denmark. For how long I still haven´t found out but at least during the 1970s. The studio was still excisting in 1978 according to a newspaper article.
He had an assistant, Kurt Nielsen, who in 1978 started on his own beside working for Ernst Nielsen. He opened at another location in Faxe and called his studio "Pottemagerhuset" (The Potters House). But that´s a totally different style and story.
Left is still a whole lot of digging and I wouldn´t have come so far wasn´t it for a very kind volunteer from Faxe Archive who was so kind to help me with the bits and pieces she was able to collect. Having the full name of the potter, adresses and the name of the studio makes it a whole lot easier in my further research.
